AIGA Quoted – Porsche Experimental type design
AIGA [American Institute of Graphic Arts] invited Superfried design agency to contribute to their daily Quoted series. Each designer submits five graphical representations of famous design-related quotes to appear on the home page from Monday to Friday of a specified week.
Most creative studios had developed a single typographic style to be employed throughout the week. I decided to push myself and create new, bespoke typography for each quote.
Good design should be honest.
Ferdinand Porsche
The quote was intriguing. Since he was a product designer, it led me to the question: What is the simplest form of design and construction? This led to the idea of children's building blocks.
With a style chosen the construction of the lettering was restricted to the use of only standard geometric shapes that would be potentially used for toy blocks. The quote uses the word 'honest', so the traditional material for this product – wood – was very apt.
